Sarah, this is a cool question and nicely focused. The only concern I have is about what larger debate you will be entering here. There is a possible debate in terms of human/animal relations and whether humans are as separate from animals as we think we are, given how much we rely on animals. There’s a lot of theoretical work in this area that you should be able to find. Could lead to a neat paper.
