Do countries, as independent sovereign nations have the right to do what they will with the land/resources contained within their borders (i.e. preserve, harvest, pollute, etc.) and are there any limits to this right?

I really like your question, as you’ve found a topic that will connect with different fields (ecology, politics, history, etc.). I think you’ll find a good number of experts addressing this topic as I can see people having different opinions towards sovereign power.
